Day 2

Hi everyone!! We are excited to tell you all about our day!! SO much to tell……Our team  was large enough this trip that we were able to split up into many different ministry opportunities which gave us different options to explore today!!!  So…….Lets start with the Liberty School.  We all started our  day at breakfast at 7 am.  The first pickup was at 7:15 to head to the school.  Ten of our team members went to the town of St Marc today to work at the Liberty School.  Not only were they working at the school, but there was an eye clinic held for the children as well.  The women had a chance to jump right in and teach the elementary classes. The kids were excited to have “special guest” to be visiting and were calling them all  by name quickly.  The upper grade classes were working on a project of making encouraging messages for the prisoners of a very small jail in St. Marc. The stories of how they live and how they do have  enough room to sit or lay down were amazing to hear.  We had the chance to have a “party” with them which was really fun……and we learned….no matter where you are, children act the same and climb all over one another! The women learned great new words today….Sheta (sit down) Ballo (ball)

We had a small eye clinic at the Liberty School today too.  Every child wants glasses!! Those who wanted glasses decided that they were going to stop eating carrots so that the next clinic they would be able to get glasses! One of the Haitian kids decided it would be funny to play jokes on Dr.Wayne and tell him silly riddles. Eye clinics certainly are different here in Haiti…but showed to be a lot of fun too!!

Okay, now lets see….the rest of our team…..Ashley chose to spend the day as the helper at the orphanage.  She became Autumn's personal assistant and had many responsibilities from sorting clothes to feeding babies to teaching the boys that girls can play soccer better than them!!!  She had a great day and they were so appreciative of her help today.  She loved it and now all the kids are all over her and want her to pick them up non stop!

The last six people on the team were assigned to construction.  Our job started by collecting all the supplies we were going to need to pour concrete for the new building that is being put up in the Fisherman’s Village for the eye clinic/medical clinic.  We worked along side the Haitian people and were told more than once that we were not doing things correct…lol .  Quote of the day, “ My only regret is now my husband knows how hard I can really work……” We moved approximately 10,000 pounds of rock, sand, cement, and water today.  Alisha and Julie were right there along side the men…..the Haitian men called them “ Fam djam” Let me clarify that…..STRONG WOMEN!!!! Yeah baby!!!! At one point we thought we had finished the job….we were getting excited, our hands among other things were sore, only to turn around and the truck shows up with another load.  All the Haitian children loved helping us in their own way.  We learned quickly that “break time” really means 45 seconds.

I am sure there is so much more to tell…but we really are tired after our work today and we have to be up early to start tomorrow.  So we will try to start earlier next time.  We love and miss all of you dearly.  We appreciate your support and prayers.
